Football Betting Guide

1X2 · Match Winner

What it isThe simplest football bet. Pick home win (1), draw (X), or away win (2).

Example

Liverpool vs Arsenal · You bet 1 at odds 1.80 · If Liverpool wins, $100 stake returns $180.

When to use itUse when you have a strong read on a team advantage — home-field, injuries, form.

Asian Handicap (AH)

What it isOne team starts with a virtual head start or deficit in goals. Eliminates the draw, so every bet settles on a two-way outcome.

Example

Man City -1.5 vs Burnley · For your bet to win, City must win by 2+ goals. A 1-0 City win loses this bet; a 2-0 wins it.

When to use itUse when the favourite is heavily backed and you want a better price on a decisive win — or when you want to back the underdog with a cushion (+1.5).

Over / Under (O/U) Goals

What it isBet on total goals in the match, regardless of who scores. Common lines: 2.5, 3.5.

Example

Barcelona vs Real Madrid · Over 2.5 Goals at 1.75 · If the match ends with 3 or more goals, you win. 2 or fewer, you lose.

When to use itUse when you expect an open game (attacking teams) or a defensive grind (Over/Under 1.5 for low-scoring pairings).

BTTS · Both Teams to Score

What it isWill each team score at least one goal? Yes or No.

Example

Chelsea vs Newcastle · BTTS Yes at 1.85 · Wins if both teams find the net at any point.

When to use itUse when both sides have strong attacks or leaky defences. Simpler than Over/Under because the scoreline doesn't matter — only that both teams score.

Double Chance

What it isCovers two of the three 1X2 outcomes: 1X (home or draw), X2 (away or draw), or 12 (home or away).

Example

Everton vs Arsenal · X2 at 1.30 · Wins if Arsenal wins OR if the match ends in a draw.

When to use itUse for safer bets — especially on underdog wins where a draw is also plausible. Lower odds because you're covering two outcomes.

Correct Score

What it isBet on the exact final scoreline.

Example

Real Madrid vs Valencia · 2-1 Real Madrid at 8.00 · Wins only if the match ends exactly 2-1.

When to use itRarely recommended — odds look tempting but probability of any exact score is low. Use sparingly as a high-reward small-stake bet.

First Goalscorer / Anytime Goalscorer

What it isBet on a specific player to score first (high risk, high reward) or to score at any point in the match (safer).

Example

Haaland to score anytime at 1.55 · Wins if Haaland finds the net at any point. Haaland to score first at 4.50 · Only wins if he scores before anyone else.

When to use itUse when you have read on a striker in form and their opponent's defensive weakness. Combine with fixture data.

Moneyline (US terminology)

What it isAmerican naming for a straight win/loss bet with no handicap. In football, equivalent to a 1X2 without the draw — used mostly on US-facing operators.

Example

Lakers +150 · $100 wins $150. Lakers -200 · you bet $200 to win $100.

When to use itMainly seen on US sportsbooks. For European football, 1X2 is the standard.
